The Yali

The Lelanesian Yali live in the highlands of Western New Guinea, at the center of the Baiem Valley. They are Dani-speaking people. They cultivate mainly the sweet potato, tarot, yams, millet, sugar cane and bananas. They gather lizards, mice and frogs and hunt tree kangaroos, giant bats and cuscus. They keep domesticated pigs.
